From Louvre Abu Dhabi to Expo City Dubai, UAE free museum entry is officially happening from May 16 to 18, 2026, giving residents and visitors complimentary access to some of the country's most celebrated cultural institutions.
Your weekend plans just wrote themselves. The initiative spans Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, with programming that includes guided tours, live performances, workshops, and special exhibitions — all at no cost.
International Museum Day is observed globally every May 18 and is organised by the International Council of Museums. This year's theme, "Museums Uniting a Divided World," puts a focus on the role cultural institutions play in bringing communities together through art, heritage, and shared history.
Abu Dhabi Is Running the Biggest Free Museum Lineup
Abu Dhabi has the most extensive program this weekend. Free entry is available at Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Hosn, Al Ain Museum, Al Maqta'a Museum, and Delma Museum from May 16 to 18, according to Abu Dhabi Culture.
Zayed National Museum earned a spot on TIME Magazine's 100 World's Greatest Places 2026 list and was recognised by Prix Versailles as one of the world's seven most beautiful museums. This weekend, it is hosting poetry performances, traditional Sadu bracelet-making, Al Nahma and Al Ahalla music performances, and curatorial-led Living Objects tours, where visitors explore artefacts tied to the UAE's heritage and daily life.
At Louvre Abu Dhabi, free thematic guided tours run daily at 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:30 PM, covering the permanent galleries and the ongoing Picasso exhibition, which runs until the end of May. On May 18, the museum also debuts The Pulse of Time, a new short film screening hourly in English and Arabic from 11 AM to 5 PM in the auditorium.
Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, the largest museum of its kind in the region, is open for free all three days. Highlights include Stan, a 67-million-year-old T. rex skeleton, and the Murchison Meteorite, which contains material that predates the solar system. Interactive workshops, live science sessions, and behind-the-scenes experiences are also part of the program.
Qasr Al Hosn — which includes Abu Dhabi's oldest standing structure, a watchtower originally constructed in the 1760s — and Al Ain Museum, the UAE's first museum founded in 1969 by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and located within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Al Ain Oasis, are also part of the weekend's free access program.
Dubai's Expo City Is Part of the Celebration
Expo City Dubai is offering free entry to Vision Dubai from May 16 to 18, and to the Expo 2020 Dubai Museum from May 18 to 19. Vision Dubai is an immersive, multi-sensory experience inspired by My Story: 50 Memories from 50 Years of Service, written by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. No advance registration is required for either venue. Terra, The Sustainability Pavilion, is also available at a discounted rate of Dh20 this weekend.
Sharjah Museums Are Open on May 18
Sharjah Museums Authority is opening all its museums on May 18, covering venues in Sharjah City, Khorfakkan, and Kalba. Free entry includes the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah Archaeology Museum, Sharjah Maritime Museum, Sharjah Science Museum, and Sharjah Heritage Museum.
The Sharjah Museums Passport campaign runs until May 31. Collect stamps from at least five museums and post on social media for a chance to win prizes. Full details are available at sharjahmuseums.ae.
How to Plan Your UAE Free Museum Entry This Weekend
UAE free museum entry for the full three-day period is available without any ticket purchase — no promo codes or advance payment required at most venues.
Some venues recommend booking tickets in advance, particularly for timed programs at Louvre Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum. Check each museum's official website and social media channels for updated timings and entry requirements when planning your visit. Full details for Abu Dhabi's program are available at abudhabiculture.ae and for Expo City Dubai at expocitydubai.com.
UAE free museum entry only comes around once a year, and this weekend it covers three emirates, dozens of programs, and some of the world's most impressive cultural venues.
