UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan congratulated Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani on his re-election as President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, following Ghazouani's decisive first-round victory on 29 June 2024 in which he secured 56.12% of the vote.
Phone Call Affirms UAE-Mauritania Ties
In a phone call on 2 July 2024, Sheikh Mohamed conveyed his warm congratulations to President Ghazouani and expressed his wishes for the newly re-elected leader to guide Mauritania toward continued development and prosperity.
During the conversation, Sheikh Mohamed also stressed the importance of the two countries' continued close cooperation. He underlined the significance of integration and synergy as the key to mutually beneficial relations and to deepening cooperation between the Emirati and Mauritanian peoples.
Ghazouani Reciprocates with Good Wishes for UAE
President Ghazouani thanked Sheikh Mohamed for the kind words and warm congratulations. He extended his wishes for the UAE President's good health and happiness and expressed his hopes for the all-round development and prosperity of the UAE.
Both leaders reaffirmed the UAE-Mauritania partnership and their commitment to strengthening coordination between the two nations for the benefit of both peoples.
Mauritania's 2024 Presidential Election
Ghazouani, a former army chief who first took office in 2019, won re-election to a second and final five-year constitutional term. His victory was confirmed by Mauritania's Constitutional Council on 4 July 2024. The election result was seen as a sign of relative political stability in Mauritania, a vast Sahel nation that is also positioned to become a significant gas producer in the coming years.
