The glasses run on Android XR — Google's dedicated operating platform for extended reality hardware — with Gemini fully integrated. That means turn-by-turn directions, texts, phone calls, photos, live translations, and even food delivery orders through DoorDash, all handled hands-free through voice commands. No phone required.
The hardware includes built-in speakers, microphones, and a camera, packed inside frames that genuinely look like sunglasses. Wearability was intentional. Audio glasses, launching first this fall, deliver spoken Gemini assistance through built-in speakers and let users interact hands-free without pulling out a phone. Display glasses are also in development and will show real-time information — like navigation and live translations — directly in the lens.

The AI glasses category has had a serious run. Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses sold two million pairs as of February 2025, and the category as a whole grew more than 250% in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year, according to Counterpoint Research. Google and Samsung are making their play now, and the Gentle Monster partnership signals that design credibility matters just as much as the tech specs.
