A media seminar on Belt and Road Initiative cooperation was held in Hawalli Governorate, Kuwait, on May 20, 2024, co-organized by Xinhua News Agency's Middle East Bureau and the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait. More than 70 representatives from Kuwait's leading media organizations — including the Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait State Television, and several Kuwaiti newspapers — attended the event, which drew broad participation and positive engagement from the community.
A Decade of China-Kuwait BRI Cooperation
The seminar took place against the backdrop of the ten-year anniversary of the China-Kuwait BRI cooperation agreement. Discussions focused on media's role in jointly promoting the Belt and Road Initiative in alignment with Kuwait's 2035 National Vision, and on how Chinese and Kuwaiti media outlets can work together to address common global challenges.
Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei noted that the decade of China-Kuwait BRI cooperation had produced tangible results across economic, trade, and cultural domains. He stressed that people-to-people exchanges are a core pillar of the BRI and that media plays an important role in sustaining them. Ambassador Zhang expressed his side's desire to deepen media cooperation as a means of strengthening overall bilateral relations.
Kuwait's 2035 Vision and the BRI
Khaled Al-Mahdi, Secretary-General of Kuwait's Supreme Council for Planning and Development, said that BRI cooperation has delivered clear development results for participating countries. Kuwait, one of the first nations to join the Belt and Road Initiative, is steadily aligning its 2035 National Vision with BRI milestones and objectives.
Wu Zhongmin, Deputy Chief of Xinhua News Agency's Middle East Bureau, presented on the state of media exchanges between Xinhua and Kuwaiti outlets, highlighting advances in coordination and the growth of joint coverage over the past decade.
Officials, Media, and Business Leaders Convene
The event brought together government officials, journalists, and representatives from cultural and business communities on both sides. Participants discussed BRI implementation progress, the development of joint media frameworks, and future directions for China-Kuwait cooperation under the initiative.
The seminar underscored the continued commitment of both countries to using media as a bridge for deepening ties that span economic partnership, cultural exchange, and people-to-people diplomacy.
