Dubai Police, in partnership with the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), has introduced the Drone Box system — a cutting-edge drone-based safety network — to enhance public security across two of the city's busiest business hubs: Uptown Dubai and Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT). The initiative marks the region's first deployment of the technology in high-rise, densely populated districts, reinforcing Dubai's push to integrate smart city solutions into everyday urban safety.
The Drone Box System: A Regional First
The Drone Box system, developed by Ondas Autonomous Systems (NASDAQ: ONDS) and delivered through its UAE subsidiary Airobotics DMCC, provides continuous aerial surveillance of high-rise and densely populated areas. The drones operate beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) and are certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), making them among the most advanced autonomous systems in the world.
By maintaining constant volumetric awareness of the environment, the system dramatically reduces emergency response times and improves public safety outcomes. This marks the first time anywhere in the region that a Drone Box network has been deployed specifically to monitor high-rise buildings.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem: A Global First for Smart Cities
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, described the initiative as a "global first" aligned with Dubai's leadership vision to build smart cities. "The Drone Box system is one of the world's most advanced drone technologies, playing a significant role in enhancing Dubai's public safety," he said. The system, he added, showcases DMCC's commitment to developing safer, smarter, and more innovative spaces for residents and businesses alike.
Shaping the Future of Urban Safety in Dubai
The deployment in Uptown Dubai and JLT reflects Dubai's wider strategy of leveraging advanced technology to solve the practical challenges of densely built urban environments. With thousands of residents and businesses concentrated in high-rise towers, the ability to monitor, detect, and respond to incidents rapidly is critical.
By integrating BVLOS drones capable of gathering real-time data and supporting decision-making during emergencies, Dubai is setting a new benchmark for smart city safety infrastructure across the Gulf region and beyond.
