The UAE Cybersecurity Council (CSC) has published the country's first official Drone Cybersecurity Guidelines, developed in strategic collaboration with Reach Digital and Shieldworkz. The announcement positions the UAE as a regional leader in securing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations as drone use expands across critical sectors.
UAE Cybersecurity Council Leads Drone Security Framework
The CSC stated that it worked with Reach Digital — a digital transformation and cybersecurity subsidiary of Reach Group — and Shieldworkz, a firm specialising in OT/IoT and drone protection technologies, to formulate the guidelines. The collaboration underscores the government's commitment to proactively addressing cyber risks that come with growing UAV adoption.
Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of UAE Cybersecurity, said the guidelines represent "a vital milestone in enhancing the nation's UAV ecosystem, ensuring that drone operations across government, commercial, and industrial sectors are resilient, secure, and aligned with global best practices."
What the Drone Cybersecurity Guidelines Cover
The framework is designed to protect aircraft systems, ground infrastructure, data transmission, and user privacy from cyber threats linked to drone operations. Key sectors targeted include agriculture, environmental monitoring, and logistics — industries where UAV use has grown significantly in the UAE in recent years.
The guidelines set clear cybersecurity standards for operators and manufacturers, aiming to prevent vulnerabilities that could compromise national airspace or critical infrastructure.
Industry Partners Back the Initiative
Malik Melhem, CEO of Reach Group, said: "This agreement demonstrates our continuous efforts to enhance the country's technology and security systems. Through our work with CSC, we help the nation prepare and offer cybersecurity services for the drone sector."
Mohammad Khaled, Reach Group's Vice President of Growth and Business Transformation, added: "We are bolstering the UAE's lead in securing future technologies by working with CSC and Shieldworkz on these guidelines. The program is designed to encourage safe drone technology and handle the rising risks of cybersecurity in airspace and essential infrastructure."
Part of the UAE's Broader Digital Vision
The release of the UAE drone cybersecurity guidelines is a tangible outcome of the country's forward-looking digital strategy, which prioritises cyber resilience alongside innovation. The UAE has consistently worked to position itself as a top destination for technology investment, and formalising drone security standards is a key step in that direction.
